Shoe Shopping Guide:
Snowsport

Whether skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling or snowshoeing, the snowsport enthusiast is a cold weather-loving athlete with a passion for adventure, adrenaline and action. Snowsports require skill, drive and the right footwear, which will not only keep you warm and comfortable, but will also enhance your enjoyment and performance.

Need assistance choosing Snowsport shoes? Follow these easy steps:

STEP 1: Identify the snowsport for which you need a shoe from the list below.
STEP 2: Read “Tips” for guidance on what to look for in a Snowsport shoe.
STEP 3: Click the provided links to shop for Snowsport shoes.
STEP 4: Try on your new Snowsport shoes with the socks you intend to wear while performing your chosen activity. The shoes should fit snug but feel comfortable throughout from the moment you try them on. Never attempt to break in uncomfortable Snowsport shoes.
  • SNOWBOARDING
    • Snowboarding boots are essential for snowboarding and are made with different levels of stiffness and flexibility. The type of snowboarding boot an athlete purchases should be dependent upon the type of riding he/she prefers—freestyle, free ride, or free carve. Stiff or hard boots are best for those who prefer free carving. But for freestyle or free riding, soft boots are recommended. Due to compression, snowboard boots will become less tight the more often they are used, therefore the boots should fit tight, but not painful, the first time you try them on.
      • TIPS:
        • Try on your snowboarding boots with the socks you intend to use when snowboarding
        • Walk around in your snowboard boots to ensure there is no pain or discomfort
        • Boots should fit snug around the ankle
        • While trying on the boots, lean forward to ensure there is absolutely no lifting of the heel

  • SNOWSHOEING
    • Size matters when it comes to snow shoes. The size of the snowshoe is dependent upon the athlete’s personal weight, load weight and the type of snow he/she will be snowshoeing on. A large snowshoe is best for dry, powdery snow and/or when the total weight of the athlete and his/her load is heavy. For a firm, packed snow trail and/or when the total weight of the athlete and his/her load is light, a smaller snowshoe is preferable.
  • PAC BOOTS
    • Pac boots are heavy duty, insulated boots that are versatile enough for snowmobiling, snow hiking or anytime you find yourself standing in ice for long periods of time.
  • SNOWMOBILE
    • Snowmobiling is an invigorating recreational activity that has gained great popularity with outdoor enthusiasts. As with any sport, it does involve some risk, and proper footwear is recommended in order to not only stay warm, but safe, too.
  • ICE FISHING
    • Believe it or not, ice fishing is a controversial activity that many consider to not be a “real” sport, but instead an activity that requires little skill and merely good luck. But, try telling that to a dedicated ice fishing enthusiast! It certainly isn’t an activity to take lightly, especially when considering the stamina and patience required to withstand the climate involved. Because ice fishing involves interaction with cold lake water, it is imperative to have the right footwear.
  • WINTER FASHION
    • After a day of skiing, snowboarding or snowmobiling, you might just want to relax and look good while hanging around the cabin or resort. Shop our selection of winter fashion footwear for shoes that will keep you warm and stylish at the same time.
