About AtlasAtlas FAQ
FAQ provided by Atlas

What is snowshoeing?
Snowshoeing is walking, hiking, running or climbing on the snow. Snowshoes help keep you on top of the snow instead of sinking. Modern snowshoes are light, designed to allow a natural stride and feature crampons that bite into the snow providing traction.

How do I pick a snowshoe to buy?
Find the right snowshoe by using the Atlas "FACT", Flotation, Articulation, Comfort and Traction. FACT is the formula that measures the four essential elements of snowshoe performance.

F-Flotation: Every snowshoe provides a certain amount of flotation based on its surface area. Fully-loaded body weight (your weight plus any pack or gear you may be carrying) and snow conditions are used to determine the size of snowshoe that is best for your needs.

A-Articulation: How the binding of the snowshoe attaches to the foot and how it allows the foot to move. Ideally you want a binding that will limit stepping rotation, allow the ankle freedom to rotate and minimize heel twist. The Atlas Spring-Loaded binding is the only snowshoe binding that allows ankle rotation and eliminates heel twist.

C-Comfort: Fit and comfort of the binding are important for a good experience. Atlas snowshoe bindings cradle the arch and ball of your foot and are the only snowshoe bindings molded separately for right and left feet. The switchback webbing design eliminates pressure points ensuring even blood flow and warmer feet. Easy on and off buckles like our Fast-loc™, SureClick™ and new ratchet buckles make our snowshoes glove friendly.

T-Traction: Snowshoe crampons provide three types of traction for climbing, descending, and traversing. Atlas invented the dual crampon system and patented it and now it’s the modern standard. Atlas has added new Traverse Trac™ side traction rails for ultimate side hill traction.

How to use the Atlas FACT:
Atlas snowshoes are divided into three basic categories: Trail Adventure, All Terrain, and Trail Running. Trail Adventure Shoes include the Atlas 7 and 8 Series and are for walking and hiking. All Terrain shoes include the Atlas flagship 10 Series and 12 Series. Trail Running shoes are our Dual-Trac and Dual-Trac SL (Super Lite). While each snowshoe series provides flotation they have varying levels of articulation, comfort and traction. Basically, as you move up through the Atlas snowshoe series you are getting more performance for your money. For instance, All Terrain and Trail Running snowshoes all feature the Atlas patented Spring-Loaded binding for superior articulation and comfort. Atlas 10 and 12 Series have the All-Trac crampon and new Traverse Trac™ side traction rails for superior traction.
