Very nice all around shoe, I wear them on and off the bike. Definitely in the skater style, they look a little goofy with the low-rise socks I prefer. Works well on the pedals, but in retrospect I would have gotten a high top and not the low, I've wiped out a couple of times and not having protection on my protruding ankle bone has meant some nasty road rash.
Other shoes recommended by reviewer: Keen cycling sandles (although they have the same problem with ankle protection)

Well, it's an excellent shoe. This is my second pair, used for riding and racing downhill as well as all around use. For riding they stick very well to pinned pedals; for all around use they're just okay; they do slip on wet grass (more than sneakers for example) or any surface where you need a shoe to dig in and provide a bit of grip. The only serious downside I encountered came about when my old pair started to wear (after 3 solid years) and the support gave way leading to foot pains. The "stealth rubber" seems to provide little cushioning on its own after the insoles wear out. Got a new pair, no more foot pains.

Good sticky rubber. Only complaint is the shoe is a little wide because it often drags on the crank arm if you do not have your foot placed just right. Maybe I am too accustomed to the small clipless. I do like the support of having the full shoe on the pedal versus the small area that clipless shoes provide you. Just learning how to jump and keep your foot on the pedal.

First of all, they do what they say. You stick to those pedals, and that's exactly what I bought them for. They're beefy so they fit a little boot-like. More room above my feet than I would like but I have kind of narrow feet. They dont breathe either. But still, they're well made and if you hit me up in 5 years Im sure Ill still be rockin through the mud on my flats with them.

The reviews are true about these shoes being sticky. Once you place them on the pedals you cant slide them around. This was quite a change from my Vans which would slide all over. They are well made and very durable. They are a bit heavier than Vans but not by much. They are more of a hiking/biking shoe instead of a beach shoe. I have met other riders who have had these shoes over 2 years and they are still holding up. My Vans wore out and the soles were falling off in a few months. I have never seen a tongue design like this where it is integrated in to the side of the shoe. It works great, stays put, and does not slide over. If you want the best non-clip-in shoes you can get for mountain biking get some of these.

Excellent shoe - Bought the shoe to ride mountain biking on platform pedals. Fit was to size, soles grip the platforms like glue. Big shoes for the size, so don't expect them to make your feet look small(er). I have a slightly wide foot, and they fit fine. So maybe a person with a narrow foot would find them a bit wide? Couldn't be happier. Well, if they'd been free...

You're still not going to get near the performance of clipless, but this is as good as it gets for flat pedals. Very, very grippy; sometimes when it really sinks in, I can even pull up a pedal. Comfort-wise, the shoe is very tight, so I give it 4 stars. Fit is otherwise excellent. For aesthetics, you might consider the Sam Hill edition that will be my next purchase once/if these wear out. Five Ten Impact Shoe......Excellent Choice - Excellent shoe. If you want a shoe to ride with flats this is the one. For one, it won't let go, unless you pick your foot up. I usually ride clipped in, but I can honestly say that I might as well go back to flats, because this shoe is just as good as clips. So far the sole has held up nicely, it is pretty stiff compared to other shoes, and it is very comfortable.

A great all-around shoe, not just for biking - Personally I liked the style of the original impact better, but since I can't find it in my size I went with the impact2. Fit, comfort and durability are all top notch. This is a great everyday shoe. The sole is super grippy on everything but paint (i.e. on painted asphalt they grip like normal shoes) I love how the shoe is designed around the shape of the foot. The "raptor tongue" never gets sucked down into the shoe when I put it on. The laces move easily through the nylon webbing eyelets which are under the leather upper, thus protecting the laces from abrasion. This shoe required no breaking in what so ever. Although the sole was a little stiff to begin with it was never uncomfortable and actually added a little spring to my step. I have screws and pins in my right foot and a lot of bone scarring so finding a shoe that fits is difficult but the 5.10s fit right from the first time I donned them. I wear these everyday and the support and comfort are top notch. I have put about 200 walking miles on these shoes and they look great, feel great and grip like glue. Best on the market, but not perfect... A few years ago, Intense Cycles talked to Five Ten about making a mountain biking specific shoe. They were on the market for a year or two and then were discontinued by Intense, so Five Ten changed them slightly, took the Intense logo off, and this is the result. First, the good; the shoes are pretty much the best "flat pedal" shoe on the market. They offer great grip, a stiff sole, and good protection for your foot when knocking into rocks on the trail. Now for the bad; Besides from the price tag, they're on the heavy/bulky side, which becomes more of a problem in the larger sizes. Another note here, Five Ten never really designed this shoe to be a mountain biking specific shoe in the first place and don't just take my word for it......go over to FiveTen.com and look at their casual shoes. You'll see a couple of them have the same outsoles, which was originally designed for recreational rock climbing. If Five Ten wants to make the best mountain bike shoe ever, they need to make this shoe a little lighter and less bulky.......but honestly, they're already off to a great start, and hopefully they'll sell well enough for Five Ten to think about a redesign in a year or two.
Other shoes recommended by reviewer: Currently, there's nothing currently on the market that even comes close in terms of pedal grip.

5.10 impacts, low rise - My only complaint is that they fit a tad smaller than marked. That doesn't bother me until after several hours of riding. These things still like glue to platform pedals. Actually, they take some getting used to in that regard. If I need to adjust my foot placement on the pedal, I can't simply lift up my foot a bit and slide it like I could with my older shoes. I must in fact lift up my foot, off the pedal to shift it around. Overall, an awesome shoe.

Best DH / Freeride shoe on the market. I had been hesitating purchasing these for a couple of years now, because they looked a little bulky and are kinda' pricey compared to most of the BMX/skate style shoes that freeriders and DH riders (like myself) usually ride with. But, when my last two pair of shoes wore out in record time and couldn't find anything that really gripped the pedals, I decided to finally give these Five-Ten's a try.........and I'm glad I did! The fit is excellent, and they literally STICK to the pedals. There is nothing else on the market like them. Even the (old, original USA-made) Vans gum rubber bottoms don't stick like these do. My only fear is that if they discontinue them, nothing else on the market will come even close to these, in terms of fit and grip. Only time will tell if they hold up well, but the nearly entire shoe is made of thick suede, so they look to be up to the task. The plastic toe guard is a nice feature as well. The only downside I can think of is that they're heavier than what I'm used to. Hopefully, Five-Ten will someday come out with a newer lightweight version. That would be nice. It would also make the shoe perfect.
Other shoes recommended by reviewer: None. This is currently the best shoe on the market for people who ride flat pedals.
