The shoes got here in two days; that was great! They fit perfectly, look good, and are now happily being broken in on the back trails at Toro Regional Park. I thank you for a top-notch product at a very good price (and so does Arthur, my Jack Russell)!

Good shoe. I owned the 102 ultra and loved'em. Bought this pair and didn't like the 'sturdiness' to the shoe. I'd say two years later still have them and am looking forward to buying another pair. Pros - strong, sturdy, long-lasting Cons - at first stiff brake-in, but great fit after, sole starts to slightly come off early on but doesn't affect it to the point it comes off. Agreed 1/2 size larger than normal, I believe. Great shoe.

North Face 103 XCR- Shoe is great. A little too stiff at first. The cut of the shoe rubbed my ankle a little, so I put Dr. Scholl’s gel inserts in and they feel great now!

The North Face Ultra 103 XCR® Run 1/2 size too big; so go down 1/2 size. The looks & feel are outstanding! Zappos is unbelievable with their 110% price protection & shipping. Will definitely use Zappos.com more often. The North Face shoes will be on my feet for a long time too.

Alright, but not a runner... I've looked around a lot for a GORE-TEX XCR trail runner that could double as a supportive all season disc golf shoe with the ability to easily add gaiters to keep snow out. Well, I thought I found it when I got the North Face Ultra 103 XCR, but I realized how stiff and uncomfortable they are. Maybe they would break-in, but if not/until then these barely qualify as trail runners. Also, they seem a little too high on the ankle to be running in. They do have great support (and protection) and a roomy toe box, so they might be good for hiking, but I can't justify keeping them for this since I found a far better trail runner which I just got from Zappos: the La Sportiva Ultranord GTX-XCR, which is much more flexible, lower, feels lighter and less clunky. And it comes with gaiters. I have a wide foot and am very picky about fit, and the La Sportiva is WAY more comfortable.

A Nice Hiking Shoe - My second pair of NF XCR shoes, and I like the performance of these shoes as they are waterproof for wet grass and puddles on the trail. Toe and heel rounded well for cruising along. Roomy, reinforced toe box on this model makes for comfort and confidence on rough ground. North Face does a nice job with their shoes and I always check them out first when buying. True to size and true to width.

Great waterproofing - Waterproofing works great. Went for run in downpour and ran through 2-3 inches of water - socks stayed dry. Went up one size and this may be just a little too much. A 1/2 size would probably be better. A lot of room in the toe-box and I have a wider foot. Comfort ok, foot support good, but ankle rubbing a bit - overall very satisfied!

Too tough to wear - I bought these for my husband and he has not been able to wear them more than 3 times. They are so stiff and unyielding around the ankles, he has blisters on both feet. They look great but we're not sure he can wear them in without causing too much damage to his ankle bones. I thought they would be a good choice due to the Gore Tex material, however it might be a moot option if they cannot be worn comfortably.

North Face is a Winner. This is a great athletic shoe. It's waterproof which is a great plus, but it is not a hot shoe as most waterproof shoes are. Nice looking and comfortable too!

Great looks, roomy fit! Just tried on my first pair of 103s and they're great. My main uses include light hiking, but mostly road running in sloppy winter weather here in the Northeast. I try to stick to my usual runners for serious distance running, but if the weather gets nasty, these do the trick in keeping my feet warm and dry on most runs. I have somewhat wide feet and while I don't usually have to specifically purchase wide shoes, I do keep width in mind. With that said, these shoes are definitely nice and roomy from front to back, especially in the toebox (where my foot is widest across the toes). I normally wear a size 13 and these feel to be pretty much exactly a size 13 - maybe even just a bit longer. Concerning arch support, most other reviews are correct in that there really is none out-of-the-box. The lack of arch support doesn't really detract from the comfort as far as I'm concerned though. If you have special support needs, then you may want to look into orthotics. Phew... so given the good looks (Cylinder Blue and Polaris Orange), roomy fit, and general all-around good feel, I can definitely work with these.

Gary-Retired - I have a wide foot so I ordered a size larger. The shoes fit perfectly. Felt great right out of the box. I ordered the shoes at 4:30 pm and received them at 11:00AM the next day. Outstanding service! I ordered shoes from another company last week and received them 5 days later. Zappos lives up to their service promise. Will shop here again.

Excellent Hiking Shoe - I have used this shoe for several backpacking trips, as well as trail running and absolutely love it. I carry a heavy load backpacking (70-80 pounds) and the shoe has held up no problem. I just got back from climbing Mt. Whitney and did Half Dome in Yosemite last fall. I used to use heavy hiking boots and was having trouble with my feet so I decided to try this shoe instead and have had no problems since. I do however use a custom orthotic with the shoe. As with all running and hiking shoes, the stock insoles are useless if you need any arch support at all.

Overall solid shoe - I received these within 24 hours of ordering. Once again great service by Zappos. The shoes look nice and fit well. They sit a little higher at the ankles than my similar shoes from Merrill and after a couple of hours I had a bit of discomfort. This is improving as they are getting broken in. I used them in a lot of wet grass and they kept my feet dry, which was the goal. Overall a solid shoe that I would recommend.

Nice looks, poor quality - I love the feel of these shoes but the sole keeps coming separated from the bottom of the shoe. I have tried 3 pairs and the same thing keeps happening. Zappos, however, has been extremely accommodating with replacements of this shoe.

Great shoe, but maybe not for narrow feet - Spotted and tried on TNF Ultra 103XCR in a store and liked the looks (but not the color), so ordered the color I wanted from Zappos. I have narrow feet; although shoes may be true to size, they are a little roomy for me. Heavier socks help, which make them hotter in summer. I wear the Ultras for several miles of easy trail walking each day and like them just fine. If I were a trail runner, I'd probably look for a snugger shoe for my narrow feet. I can't say enough good about Zappos' service. I ordered them in the evening and they were on my doorstep before noon the next day. Returned them (paid by Zappos) for a different pair and I was walking in them a day later. Found slightly cheaper prices elsewhere on line, but service like this is worth more than the extra I'd have saved.

Happy - I've had these for quite some time now and unfortunately, the sole has worn away now meaning I need to find another pair. They still look great and feel great, and they have been used extensively from trail running, hikes to all round use. The fit was perfect so don't order a half size bigger. I normally have to wear orthotics (Neutral foot) but have gone back to wearing the original inner sole as it is more comfortable!!

The North Face Ultra 103 - I'm a meter reader and I walk about 6 to 10 miles a day. The shoes are very comfortable, and in wet grass my feet stay dry. I would recommend this shoe to anyone who is out in the elements for any amount of time. The service department of Zappos is unbelievable. I had my shoes within 15 hours of ordering them.

A little roomier than most shoes but very nice - I have been wearing 13's for 15 years, but these are very loose across the top of the foot. The length feels right. That took some getting used to. Don't get me wrong, I love the shoe in look and functionality. The waterproof feature was very useful to me.

Great, waterproof, all-around trail runner - The Ultra 103 ZCR is a great shoe. I wanted the best of all worlds--cushion of a road runner, support of a boot, waterproof, not white tacky of a road runner. I got most of it in the 103—it’s a little heavier than a road runner (to be expected), it's got good styling, it's Gortex/waterproof, it has GREAT SUPPORT--I'm a severe over-pronator and the heel cup and meta-tarsal SUPPORT IS EXCELLENT. It could use a bit more cushion, but it is a trail runner after all. I run in them only sometimes, most just travel and daily wear. They are great! Classy, technical but not geekish looking, light, runable... great! True to size, really. Don't buy a half size bigger as I did-- I'm an EU 45, and I fit well into a 10.5. 11 was too big--returned it. Stars: it gets 4 for overall and comfort b/c I would like more heel-strike cushion, but it's a TRAIL-runner, after all.
