Lovely boot - This boot is light weight, very comfortable, and seems to have excellent support. I have very hard to fit feet (wide; bunion on one foot), and I can wear these comfortably. As a novice hiking boot wearer, I am still getting used to the overall feel, but expect to be very happy with them. They do not seem to require much breaking in. An added plus - they look great.

Right out of the box! So I engaged in a backpacking faux pas, and bought these boots to wear on a trip the very next day - never something youre supposed to do with rugged backpacking boots. But I couldn't have been happier! The fit was perfect, no breaking-in time at all. No blisters, not even any hot spots. They're high enough to safeguard my ankles without rubbing them the wrong way. No bunching of the tongue under my laces, and no slippage - my toes never touched the ends of my boots. I couldn't recommend these highly enough, but remember, fit is everything so you have to try them on to be sure they'll work as well for you.

This is the widest boot out there, without wick-away - For long trips, boots with Gortex wick away liners get wet and moldy. These are the best available at this time for trips 7 days and longer. Has a front hook to hold laces and/or gaiters.
Other shoes recommended by reviewer: None of the other 5 pairs of boots I tried were this wide.

Bad ankles? This boot's for you! I have one weak ankle, and need a tall steel-shank boot to hike. This is the best, though it's big and very stiff, so if you don't need heavy ankle support, you might look at Montrails or Vasque. Also, the wide width is really wide (but so are Montrails and Vasque). In short, an excellent boot, but very stiff. Fantastic ankle support, but if you don't need fantastic ankle support, you might want to look elsewhere--these boots are very expensive. As for me, I'm looking forward to really putting these to the test: I think they'll serve me even better than my Montrail Torres.

Quality Boot - This is a well constructed boot. It is sturdy and will last a long time. I also have the Renegade GTX Mid boot. This boot runs wider in the heel and toe than the Renegade GTX Mid boot, I have lots of heel slippage in this boot, none in the other. The boot runs 1 size larger than marked as does the Renegade. I have a narrow foot, so if you do also and are thinking the Banff is as narrow as the Renegade, it is not. I put on 2 extra pairs of heavy wool socks to compensate for the extra width. Overall I am very pleased with these boots. They do require breaking in.

New boots! I love these boots. The insole is very cushioned and the arch support is excellent. The heel slips somewhat, but I think that once the ankle breaks in this will improve. I ordered these in a narrow because that's all that was available in my size, and although I've never considered my feet narrow, the width is fine. Also, these boots are beautifully made with leather lining and fine craftsmanship throughout. I'm looking forward to hiking the Amalfi Coast in the spring in these.

My Second Pair of LOWA boots - Yup! I love them. I was looking for a different model of Lowas, identical to a pair I purchased a few years ago through a local shoe retailer. That model probably was discontinued by LOWA (unfortunately) but these new ones feel almost as "custom-made" for me. I have to use an orthotic in my footwear and these boots accommodate that perfectly. Footwear is extremely important to me as I work either standing or walking on graded concrete surfaces. I've spent 20 years and thousands of dollars trying to find a workboot that would give me the support I need. LOWA hiking/backpacking boots are the one!!

Lowa's Banff Lady - I am not much of a writer, but here goes. The first time I wore these I was ready to send them back. They hurt the front of my leg as another woman had written. I only went 3 miles & the trip back out the next day was excruciating. I have been wearing them to work & around, which has broken them in a little. I wire them to the same place last month & at least my leg didn't hurt anymore, but there is tightness across the lower part of my instep by the toes attachment to the foot, there is pain there a lot. But part of that is I should have gotten wides maybe. I am still breaking them in as they seem to be very stiff. I have a week long backpacking trip planned for this August I hope they get more comfortable.

When I purchased these I was having trouble with my left foot including habitual corns between the inside of the little toe and the second toe and a bunion on the big toe. I bought these in wide and they do seem to have plenty of toe room however there is something pressing down on my big toe bone (left foot only so it must have something to do with that bunion). It is so uncomfortable that I cannot keep them on for more that a few minutes. It is too bad because I love the style and the boot is very warm. I am sending these back and will try another but there is not much to choose from in the wide and extra wide category for boots! Maybe Zappos can improve on this in the future.

Nice boot - runs large - This is a sharp looking hiking boot with a nice deerskin lined collar around the ankle. It has a nice high ankle for support. It has a nice substantial lug that is designed to release mud. It has quick lace boots and a catch to hold the tongue straight. I own another pair of Lowa hiking boots in the same size (8.5) that has worn out after about 5 years of hiking and everyday wear. The new pair I ordered (Banff Lady) is much larger. I actually think it's mismarked. These are made in Germany. The label says EU 41 - which should translate to US Women's 9.5. Since I ordered the 8.5 I think these run a full size larger than marked.

In my opinion, hiking boots were something you wore as a necessity, but got out of as soon as possible. I now "get it". These are absolutely WONDERFUL! They're comfortable right out of the box, and so far, do well in the snow. I have a med-wide width foot but a very high instep so I usually end up ordering a "wide" size. I did order a wide in these and they're perfect. These should be on your permanent collection and should stand out with blinking signs for anyone who wants comfortable boots. Wow. I'm also totally sold on Zappos service. These actually came 2 days after I ordered them and for Alaska, that's almost unheard of. You certainly will get more business from me!

Good Boot for a Narrow Foot - For a year and a half, I've been wearing a few pairs of the Dunham Wafflestomper Paramount, which cured my fasciitis. Unfortunately, Dunham no longer makes it. The Lowa Banff Lady is the next best boot I've found. It fits well in the width. My only complaint is that it's not as cushioned as the Dunham boot. I wear Spenco gel insoles, but it still doesn't provide the shock absorption when you step down. If it had more cushioning, it would be wonderful. It's almost impossible to find a truly narrow boot in a size 9 or 9.5. I've tried Vasque Summit GTX, but it's still too wide. The new Dunham Wafflestomper Premier is very flimsy and the laces cut into my ankles. So the Lowa Banff Lady is the best that's available right now.

I bought my shoes a month ago and I'm in the process of breaking them in. I have very narrow heels so needed the narrow "S" width. I originally ordered the 7, but it was loose in the toe box and heels. I went down to 6 1/2 and so far so good. I'm using the ingenius hiking socks (wool blend w/liner stiched into the sock). These socks combined with the leather liner, I hope, will alleviate heel blisters. I also use custom footbeds for better support.

A little too much for me - I have narrow, flat feet and usually wear custom orthotics in my running/walking shoes. In preparation for a hiking vacation, I pessimistically looked for a pair of narrow hiking boots that would work for me so I wouldn't have to rely on my running shoes over rough terrain. These boots came surprisingly close and struck me as great for serious hikers. They were very supportive and fit well. I ended up returning them, however, because they were so stiff that they would need extensive breaking in. I instead went with another style -- the Lowa Renegade II GTX Mid Lady -- which were made with more flexible materials and therefore did not need a break in period. Please note that the Lowa brand sizes are atypical. I usually wear a 7 1/2 in dress shoes and 8 or 8 1/2 in running shoes. For the Lowa hiking boots, the size 7 fit me best.

Moo Review - These are by far the best backpacking boots I have ever owned. They are comfy right out of the box, but I still suggest breaking them in for long hikes with a pack. The glove leather lining is so sweet on those feet during long hikes. The feet do not get over heated either because of the way the boots are constructed. They have great traction. The more you wear them, the comfier they get. I just love them because they are not too clunky, yet they offer enough support where you don't go tumbling down the mountain because of twisting an ankle. The soles are rugged enough to handle all kinds of jagged rock so you don't get bruised. I highly recommend these boots to anyone who is a serious hiker. I wish that Zappos carried the Lowas before I had purchased mine. I would have definitely given them my business instead of where I purchased them. My next pair of Lowas will be purchased through Zappos if they still carry the line.
