We were thrilled that our first shoe order arrived so quickly! We, parents, have used Keens and love them. Unfortunately, this shoe was not as fabulous as we had hoped. We were looking for a quality, easy to wear shoe that did not require adult help to put on, but the opening was too narrow, making it difficult to put on even with adult help. We used a shoe horn and went to our local shoe shop to see if they could stretch the shoe out for us, because once it was on, our 5 year old claimed it was comfy. They suggested we cut the elastic out, which has helped tremendously. I also thought Keen shoes were all leather, and I don\'t believe this one is. Still, the large rubber toe area is a huge plus, since this is what our son wears away on all his shoes in a matter of weeks, which is impossible to fix if the shoe is made of man-made materials. Thus far, this area is intact, and without the elastic in the middle, our son can get his shoe in on his own.

Kid's Dakota - First let me start of by saying my son does have a wide foot. Knowing this I ordered these shoes in a FULL size bigger than he would normally wear. The first time I put the shoes on it took me nearly 10 minutes to get them on (I was determined). These shoes look fantastic and they keep his feet warm and dry. They have loosened over time but they are still pretty tricky for his wide foot.

Great Shoe! Got these for my 4 year-old son as a winter-time all purpose sneaker, dog-walker, etc. Haven't been able to test in the mud yet! He LOVES them. I know they're comfortable because he never wants to wear shoes, but in the week he's had them, he won't take them off. Only problem was his wide foot wasn't fitting through the top well to get them on, but they have stretched a little and he can do it with a shoe horn. Not sure how warm they are yet and I don't know if he will be able to wear them with a heavy/wool sock. Gave one star less because of difficulty getting them on.

My 4 year old loves these shoes! My son absolutely loves his new shoes. In fact, he loves all of the Keens I have gotten him. These shoes are particular fun, because he can put them on all by himself and he doesn't have to wait for us to help him tie anything! They are sturdy, rugged, comfortable, and very adorable! I highly recommend them and in fact, I'm thinking of getting a pair for myself! Even my husband wants a pair, but unfortunately, they don't have male sizes.

Love these shoes! They are difficult for my 3.5 year old son to put on himself. But with a little help they go fine. It will also be hard to tell when they start to get small because of the "hard" toe. It makes it tough for me to feel where his big toe is in the shoe. With all that said I really love these shoes! They look great and are made really well! I wish they made them in my size. I would like a pair too!

Best purchase yet - As a father of 3, I have been purchasing shoes for myself from Zappos for as long as I can remember. These shoes were purchased for my youngest son, Heath, and he loves them. My wife continually purchased cheap shoes at dept. stores that caused blisters and tripping falls. These fit him perfectly and now he never complains about wearing shoes. Thank you.

Wasn’t sure by other reviews but went ahead - Other reviews had me worried about the difficulty of getting shoe on. Even though my son does not wear these right now, we did try them on as soon as they arrived. He has average width feet...more on the narrow side I would say and we had no problem getting them on what so ever...with nice socks. Very good looking shoes. Wish they made these for adults...I would have a pair.

Cute but rugged - Love Keens for myself, but it really withstands what the kids can dish out! My son had a hard time with it at first, but now he loves his Keens! I already have a spare which his sister wore (the unisex style) when he grows out of this one. Yes, they're that durable. I would get more if they weren't so expensive. I hope this would last him until he grows out of them, which is more than one can hope for with kid's shoes!

Not Good - I am so bummed because it's a really good looking shoe, but the lace broke right away, so I sent it back. The next pair broke too, we have just been wearing them without laces, which looks dumb, but after spending that much money, I was going to use them. It also was a lot smaller, and very difficult to put on. Pass on this one.

Decent play shoes - Bought shoes for preschooler who spends a good part of the day on a playground, even in fairly inclement weather. The Dakotas look great, are both waterproof and easy to clean, and serve almost the same purpose as boots without being heavy and awkward for running and climbing. The shoe is fairly difficult to put on, however, and extremely difficult for a child to put on by himself. Once on, they seem to be comfortable. We found these shoes to run almost a full size smaller than most other shoes. The only advantage of Dakotas over similar shoes that cost less are the looks. Given that these shoes are not easy to put on and take off, we probably won't buy them again.

Need a shoehorn, but love the look and final fit - We had to buy shoehorns to get these on our child's feet. We bought shoehorns for home, travel pack, and school. Once they are on our child's feet, they are terrific. Just wish there was more give around the opening so we didn't need the horn!

Just what I want but my son won't put them on!! The reason? Definite bottle neck. He can't get his foot into it at all. He does have wide feet and high arches but the opening is like it is for another shoe and there isn't enough give. It could be a great shoe but I will have to send them back. The book version is much better but does seem small. I ordered a 9, my son wears an 8.5, but will probably have to get a 10.

My 5 year old son really wanted these for winter shoes. He has very small feet (size 9.5) and loves the wide toe box and general fit of Keen's shoes. But, for little kids this shoe is just too difficult to get on and off. The opening is just too small and not worth the trouble. We had to send them back.

Grandma loves them! They are a bit tight to get on, but very durable for any outdoor activity we may encounter! A must have. The 4 star overall is due to the tightness getting them on. My 4 year old grandson seems to love them and no complaints about the comfort.

Functional and Durable - Great shoe! Incredibly functional, especially in rain, snow, or mud. Durable, looks great. Looks good with play clothes or even with church clothes. Perfect play shoe, or for school. Holds up so well and still looks wonderful. Like other Keens, these did run small.

These shoes are great - My son is only two, but is very hard on shoes. I wanted to move away from a sneaker and try something a little more rugged. Since my father has a pair of Keens in every style and color, I thought I would try them for my son. My son wears these shoes every day and they still look new. If he gets them really dirty, I just rinse them off and he's ready for the next day. The slip-on style is very convenient, and the look of the shoes goes nicely with most of his clothes. These shoes are great, and I will probably order another pair when he outgrows these. I do wish these shoes were available in more colors.

Just great. Highly recommend - These are really nice shoes, cute and comfy. My son really runs better since he wears them; they give him a lot of stability. Sand does not get in easily, another advantage for a toddler shoe. Zappos has great price and excellent customer service (Needed exchange because the first pair was too small, it was fast and really easy).

My son loves this shoe! If your a parent your gonna love keen shoes - they are indestructable! If your younger kids don't like hand-me-downs, there is going to be trouble... All jokes aside, this is a very well made, rugged shoe thats good for kids who like to step in snow, jump in puddles and run thru mud!

Kids Keen - My kids have the sandals, so these were the closest to them - ease, fit and comfort. My five year old loves them and they are very easy to get on by himself.

Perfect Little Boy Shoe! These shoes are great for little boys, esp. with the colder weather in New England! They are listed as more of a rain shoe? but my boys are both wearing these daily...they are good for running, climbing, splashing in puddles, light snow (just not deep or it would get inside), and keep their feet warm w/ the fleece inside! As a few people noted they run on the small side so go up from what their feet measure in inches on the website...and they do get ooohs and ahhhs from the other mom's on the playground - my kids love the colors on the bottoms too! Overall good for everyone!

Just what I want but my son won't put them on!! The reason? Definite bottle neck. He can't get his foot into it at all. He does have wide feet and high arches but the opening is like it is for another shoe and there isn't enough give. It could be a great shoe but I will have to send them back. The book version is much better but does seem small. I ordered a 9, my son wears an 8.5, but will probably have to get a 10.

My 5 year old son really wanted these for winter shoes. He has very small feet (size 9.5) and loves the wide toe box and general fit of Keen's shoes. But, for little kids this shoe is just too difficult to get on and off. The opening is just too small and not worth the trouble. We had to send them back.

Grandma loves them! They are a bit tight to get on, but very durable for any outdoor activity we may encounter! A must have. The 4 star overall is due to the tightness getting them on. My 4 year old grandson seems to love them and no complaints about the comfort.

Functional and Durable - Great shoe! Incredibly functional, especially in rain, snow, or mud. Durable, looks great. Looks good with play clothes or even with church clothes. Perfect play shoe, or for school. Holds up so well and still looks wonderful. Like other Keens, these did run small.

These shoes are great - My son is only two, but is very hard on shoes. I wanted to move away from a sneaker and try something a little more rugged. Since my father has a pair of Keens in every style and color, I thought I would try them for my son. My son wears these shoes every day and they still look new. If he gets them really dirty, I just rinse them off and he's ready for the next day. The slip-on style is very convenient, and the look of the shoes goes nicely with most of his clothes. These shoes are great, and I will probably order another pair when he outgrows these. I do wish these shoes were available in more colors.

Bottle neck! Bottle neck shoes. They’re adorable! Waterproof, sturdy. Perfect for a little guy… EXCEPT I CAN’T GET THEM ON HIM! The opening is way too small. I had to return them.

Just great. Highly recommend - These are really nice shoes, cute and comfy. My son really runs better since he wears them; they give him a lot of stability. Sand does not get in easily, another advantage for a toddler shoe. Zappos has great price and excellent customer service (Needed exchange because the first pair was too small, it was fast and really easy).

My son loves this shoe! If your a parent your gonna love keen shoes - they are indestructable! If your younger kids don't like hand-me-downs, there is going to be trouble... All jokes aside, this is a very well made, rugged shoe thats good for kids who like to step in snow, jump in puddles and run thru mud!

Kids Keen - My kids have the sandals, so these were the closest to them - ease, fit and comfort. My five year old loves them and they are very easy to get on by himself.

Perfect Little Boy Shoe! These shoes are great for little boys, esp. with the colder weather in New England! They are listed as more of a rain shoe? but my boys are both wearing these daily...they are good for running, climbing, splashing in puddles, light snow (just not deep or it would get inside), and keep their feet warm w/ the fleece inside! As a few people noted they run on the small side so go up from what their feet measure in inches on the website...and they do get ooohs and ahhhs from the other mom's on the playground - my kids love the colors on the bottoms too! Overall good for everyone!
