At first, I thought this boot was great! I tried it at home, walking around the house for about a week, then took it to the office, walking back and forth to the office for 2 weeks. I took them on an 11-mile day hike in steep terrain, and outside of a couple of hotspots, I still thought they were ok. I then went on a 3-day 30-some mile backpacking trip in montane/alpine steep terrain, and after the second day, I refused to wear them any longer. The sole was much stiffer than I thought, and even after so many miles, it still was not flexing sufficiently. Because of the lack of flex, I had a great deal of pain in my left 2nd, 3rd and 4th toes, and 5 days later, I still have "numb toe syndrome." Please note: I do have pronating feet with weak arches, and despite replacing the factory insoles with Shock Doctor insoles to correct, I still had these problems - so this could be a part of the issue. I can say that the ankle support was good and that the boots were very waterproof, and my feet didn't sweat excessively. The braking system works very well on gravelly and scree-y terrain. I will, however, be searching for another boot.

Great boot - After 3 months of searching I have found the right brand. I have taken them on 3 long day hikes in the Chugach in Alaska and had no problems. The tech info on the tread pattern and the breaking system really works. I had no problems going down a crazy steep trail full of loose rock and dust I didn't even use my poles. I have also taken them on trails in the rain and mud, and I had no problems then either. My only complaint is the gusset on the tongue ends at the ankle and does not extend to the top of the boot. Despite this I have not had any problems with my feet getting wet, and I have been tromping through the mud. I did replace the insoles with a pair of Spencos, but I have never been happy with the arch support in any vendor supplied insoles. I like these boots so much I am taking them to Denali with me and finally throwing out my old dependables. I really recommend this boot virtually no break in time, no blisters and no sore toes. I am definitely getting another pair of La Sportivas when I kill these.
