Boots live up to previous reviews. The good and the bad. Good: Able to break these in on a couple of 4-hour hikes. Heard to get them at least 1-size larger than running shoe and that was 100% correct (Zappos had to swap up to a larger size for me, thanks!) Strap on crampons work like a charm. Too warm at sea level, but taking them to Mt Rainier and then Patagonia. Bad: Insole dissolved in first hour and caused blister; yank 'em out! Orthotics in now and all better. Irregular stitching on insulated inner boot. Not sure that won't cause some sort of friction blister over long trek, but double layer socks are managing it so far.

These boots rock!!! I purchased these boots for winter climbing in the Adirondacks and a climb of Mt Rainier. They are extremely warm, I wore just the liners when it was -15 and my feet were fine. Way more comfortable than plastic boots, but feel more like leathers. I would recommend these to anyone, I love them. Just watch the sizing, they seem to run a little small and there are different fits even of the same size just goes to prove they are hand made. Oh and Zappos is the bomb for ordering, they made the exchange extremely easy and fast. Thank You Zappos, I have told everyone about you guys. A pleasure to do business with.

Alpine tested - I've always been reluctant to step into a double boot due to the horrors of shin bang, bulk, limited flexibility and sheer weight. But with my adventures now requiring a double boot, I'm glad I spent the extra dough and purchased the Nuptse over some of the other conventional plastic boots. This past weekend I did 10 miles in these boots on snow that definitely had mixed consistencies. The boots fit well to both my crampons & snowshoes. The fit was good and flexibility was outstanding, given the other options in the marketplace. I say that if you are looking for a double boot, drop the cash on these babies. Its worth it when you are 10 miles out and still need to make the trek back to base camp.

An excellent, all-round double boot. I have used my Nuptse for three seasons all over the Sierras, including ice climbing and some mixed climbing as well. They are extremely warm, waterproof and comfortable. My friends with hardshells have now all bought them and love them. They work best with strap on crampons as the toe welt is very narrow and difficult with autos, especially when you have to remove them often. They are incredibly durable and resist crampon abuse well. The liners are excellent, except that the bottoms of mine cracked from running around in hard snow at camp. While stiff, they are far more flexible than hardshells. I will be wearing them in Peru and Argentina in 2008 and expect them to continue to work well. Quality is excellent. I sized mine a size larger to allow for wearing extra socks (liner, and 2 medium-thick pairs). I highly recommend these over any hardshell!

Narrow! I'm not sure what the 12/EEE reviewer is talking about. I have size 12/E feet and found size 47 in these boots way too narrow, even with just a liner sock. As in: my bare foot fills the entire width of the shell. Once you add socks and liners, they just won't fit. La Sportiva is known for narrow boots. If you know you have a wide foot, it's just wishful thinking to hope these will be comfortable for long days climbing. Maybe they'll be good if you want a rock shoe fit. Other than that, the boot is almost perfect.
Other shoes recommended by reviewer: These and the Spantiks are in a class all their own.

Pretty Roomy for a European Mountaineering Boot - With size 12/EEE-sized feet, I probably should have taken up snorkeling instead of mountain climbing, because there just isn't much sympathy for us duck-footed climbers among mountaineering boot manufacturers. That being said, the Nuptse is one of the most comfortable (out of the box - haven't climbed in them yet) of the kind I've tried yet. Although I did have to order a half size larger to get a width that worked. I rate them five stars out of the box, but with the very BIG qualification that I haven't climbed in them yet...we'll see.

Sportivas performance in the Sierra Nevadas - I used a set of Sportiva NUPTSE boots during a winter training session at Bridgeport California. Max height 9500ft. Working temps 20 degrees F to -32 degrees F. The boots definitely kept my feet warm, however, they aren't made to flex, which made them difficult to wear. The soft inner boot was outstanding for transition from the outside, through the vestibule and into the expedition tent. Just drop the outer shells in the vestibule. The boots were compatible with both the military style cross country skis as well as crampons and snowshoes. The boots were also lightweight and were easy to ditch and don.
