Had been wearing an old pair of Red Wings for so long the vibram sole was worn off. I should have bought these long before. Real comfortable. Theses are serious boots. I have long, narrow feet, and the lacing system allows you to get them as tight as you like. Were particularly good for the rocky trails we have around here. Can\'t wait to get them on a backpack.

I've now owned two pairs of these boots. I have wide feet so I really like the wide width. These boots were comfortable from the first time I wore them. The sizing seems perfect for 10.5 size foot. I've never had a blister while wearing these boots. I do a lot of hiking in the slick rock of Utah and find that they have real good grip on the rocks.

I love my Montrail Torre GTXs. I have a hard time finding shoes that I am able to wear with my custom orthotics. I went with the 11 wide which gives me everything I require: sufficient room in the toe box, good arch support, a snug supportive fit around the mid foot and ankle, and a snug fit in the heel cup without slippage. They work just right on the typical rocks, roots and ruts of Maine. I even bought a second pair for backup. Happy hiking.

THE PINNACLE HIKING/BACKPACKING BOOT: MONTRAIL TORRE GTX! I have the original Montrail Torre GTX's which I have had since 2002. THIS NEW PAIR OF TORRE GTX's COULD BE CALLED VERSION2's because they sport complete rubber/composite covering around the entire shoe including the sides and a generous heel cap that reaches up to the all important ankle lace point. This is a big improvement over the original Torre GTX which only had a toe cap. Don't get me wrong; however; the originals I have hiked hundreds of miles in the scraggy peaks of the Rockies of Montana. I have hiked many hours climbing peaks and then descending them in those boots, and they are absolutely the most perfect balance between support, solid footing, flexibility, and comfort! Plus, if you use Montrail's "Lacing System" you get no toe jam and rarely blistering. PERHAPS ONE OF THE BIGGEST PLUSSES OF THE TORRE'S IS THAT THEY NEVER SMELL, EVEN AFTER A 10 HOUR HIKE!!! THAT'S AMAZING! & IT'S BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL LEATHER!!! MOST ALL THE OTHER TOP BRAND BOOTS IN THE SAME CATEGORY THAT I HAVE OWNED IN THE PAST WERE STINK MONSTERS! EVEN JUST AFTER 1 HOUR IN THOSE OTHER BRANDS- PULL EM OFF AND THEY SMELL LIKE CORPSES! My 1st Torre GTX's however are deeply cut up in the leather on the sides and heel areas as our trails are very scraggy with a lot of slag, so this pair- still in fantastic shape- has been relegated MTN biking & use in the gym for which they are perfect- I am a Personal Fitness Trainer. THE NEW TORRE GTX V2's are TOTALLY AWESOME! Same great fit as the originals! Perfect balance of support; flexibility; more surefootedness than the originals; and comfort!!! And, like the originals, THEY ARE NOT STINK MONSTERS! The extra surefootedness is due to the encompassing composite/rubber that surrounds the lower part of the boot. It really adds to your sense of safety/security/stability. THE ONLY CONS I HAVE FOUND FOR THE TORRE GTX V1's & V2's IS THAT THEY ARE BOTH ABSOLUTELY THE WORST BOOT ON ICE OR HARD PACKED SNOW. I have learned by painful experience not to wear these boots in those trail conditions ever again! Oh, and the new Torre GTX V2's are a little stiffer- minus 1/2 star- with all that composite protection, but I have only put 25 miles on these so far so they will probably loosen up & get more comfortable with more miles on them. Also, the new ones are a little hotter as they don't breath as well with all that composite surrounding. IN SUMMARY, THE TORRE GTX'S (ORIGINALS & NEW VERSION) ARE BAR NONE THE BEST HIKING/BACKPACKING BOOTS I HAVE EVER OWNED! I'M 46 AND I HAVE TRIED THE TOP 10 BRANDS... SOMEHOW MONTRAIL STUMBLED UPON THE PERFECT BOOT CONCOCTION A FEW YEARS BACK AND HAVE TWEAKED IT AGAIN JUST SO SLIGHTLY SUCH THAT THEY ARE STILL THE PENULTIMATE HIKER'S DREAM. GET SOME BEFORE THEY STOP MAKING THEM!!! Oh, and don't forget to get some Superfeet insoles for these here on Zappos- Big Plus! ZAPPOS ROCKS!!! THANKS YALL!

Great for wide feet - I was looking for a decent pair of hiking boots, and these were recommended by a magazine for people with wide feet. I've had good luck with their recommendations before, so I went with these. I am very happy with them so far, although I have only had them for about a month and I am still just breaking them in. My only complaint is that they seem a bit heavy compared to my last set of hiking boots, but those weren't waterproof either. As for the looks - I'm not too concerned about the looks, but these are subtle and clean enough that they don't bother me. I would definitely recommend these boots.
Other shoes recommended by reviewer: I've also had good luck with Asolo boots.

Love Them - Bought a second pair before the first wore out. I'm a mason and go through a lot of boots. These are a little pricey for my work boots, but I bought a pair for backpacking and found them so stable and 100% waterproof to the top lace hooks that I find them worth it. The wrap around toe also helps with durability. Aesthetically I think most hiking boots look like goulashes with the rubber surrounds, but found these tolerable.

Solid Boots - Throw some Nikwax leather conditioner on these boots and you got yourself some comfortable and rugged boots. I really dig these boots, because of the additional protection around the base; it really keeps them from taking brutal scraps when hiking in rocky spots. Also, Zappos got these to my door in one day!
