Awesome Gore-Tex Proshell Jacket! Great jacket for what I want to do in it! I got mine specifically for Ice Climbing and since the new GTX Pro Shell under-coating is really durable under the tightly woven strong as nails nylon exterior this Modulus jacket is ideal for fending off scrapes and punctures that usually plague the average Ice Climber. The stretch panels on the sleeves, back and shoulders make climbing and other movements very easy. The sleeves could've been an inch longer (I wear medium and found the sleeves on the Modulus to be a tad shorter than they usually tend to be on other similar gore-tex jackets) and the hemline could've been about 2 inches longer in front (the back hem drops lower so it protects your rear end from the wind-chill, but the front sits higher and sort of bunches up in your climbing harness if you are not tidy with tucking it properly). Also note that the Modulus body is pretty slim and is a true athletic cut so don't even think you are going to get to squeeze a warm puffy down coat under this (like the TNF Nuptse). The most I can get under it is 2-3 base layers and a fleece (like the TNF Denali). But when you are climbing ice you don't really need much more than this under your waterproof outer shell. Because of this I can say this is DEFINATELY a climber's "alpine ascent" jacket and not a Skiers or Snow Boarder's "back country descent" jacket-since those tend to be more roomier shells that are intended for warm down coats and avalanche rescue devices to go under them. Other than these very minor design gripes, everything else was perfect. The hood is big enough for helmets and the collar comes up to your nose to keep the draft out. Although at first I thought it had too many zippers and pockets on the front, I soon realize they are actually for extra ventilation during your climbs and ascents. I was going to get an Arc'teryx Alpha SV Jacket for $599 but this Modulus is a pretty decent and a cheaper replacement. I expect it to last 5 or more years of hard use, whereas other cheaper shells like the similar looking but much flimsy TNF Hyvent Antigravity Jacket would last about 1 season of hard use. I would totally recommend this to a friend who wants a light weight and durable jacket for Backpacking, Mountaineering and Ice Climbing. Snowboarders and Skiers go elsewhere.
Other shoes recommended by reviewer: Petzl Quarks, Grivel G 14s, Koflach Verticals, MAMMUT Baffin Harness, Marmot Lightstreak Pants
