Best trail shoe made. I\'ve tried Vasque, Asics and they\'re junk. This shoe works well for short periods of pavement and trail. Great stability and lateral support. Lacing system is not for everyone.

Like my last pair of good work boots, the Salomons should have been the first pair of running shoes I purchased. This is the second pair for me and following the purchase of my first pair, I purchased a pair for my daughter who was walking in the three day and has been wearing them ever since. Great shoes with an outstanding fit and good life. Great value, too. Thanks Salomon and Zappos!

I've owned a few different styles of Salomons over the last few years. The fit and feel of the XT Wings is really not much different than the others, especially the footbed. Salomons generally have a higher arch area and a somewhat narrow, snug fit. The heel of this shoe is slightly more elevated on these than others I've tried lately. My problem with these and most other Salomons is that I can't get the proper length. For me a 13.5 would be perfect. 13 is on the verge of being too short and 14 feels too long and the shoe just feels too big in general. I bought these in a 14 after great deliberation in the store. I really have to lace them tightly and even then, they just don't feel secure enough for any real spirited trail adventures. I can feel a little lateral movement even after adding an additional insole. I might add that I do have a somewhat narrow foot and salomon is the only brand that comes close to the good snug fit and footbed shape I need for good support. Also I wish they would add more cushioning to the forefoot of their shoes. I suffer from plantar fasciitis and a slightly thicker more forgiving sole would do wonders. All that said, even though I can't find a shoe of any kind that really fits (no half sizes past 12--WHY???!!!!), the XT Wings is as good a quality as you can expect in a shoe of this type. Good Luck!

Love the shoes, but the laces and the lace eyelets are a definite weak point. I am on my second pair of laces and they're hard to find and expensive. Now my eyelets are beginning to show wear. The one is almost torn through. Granted, I have worn them hard for both trail running; about 100 miles and probably 250 miles of hiking in about 18 months, but I didn't expect them to be wearing out so soon. After all, they are made for the trail and expected to be rugged enough to take the tough stuff. Right? So, unless I read that the shoe lacing system has been considerably toughened up, I don't expect to be paying this much for another pair anytime soon.

The XT Wings are Salomon's best yet. There seems to be very few major changes from other models, but the shoe feels much lighter and more agile (actually, a shoe can't be agile but I felt more agile in it) than some of its clunky predecessors. The wide outsole at the heel makes for more stability over rocks and other trail goodies, thus less chance for ankle rolls. The only problem I perceived was the same for all of Salomon's beefier-type shoes: a little too much room in the forefoot and midfoot combined with a yet-to-be-perfected lacing system leads to increased foot movement, especially after stream crossings where the shoe becomes soaked. Overall, however, very good shoe! Buy a half size larger than most other brands.

Good but not Great - Like the shoe, very sturdy and rugged. The shoe was tight so I had to go up a half size. The lace system is nice but could use a little more ankle support

Not bad - Great sticky rubber soles for running on wet asphalt. Not great in muddy conditions. Great winter training shoe for the road.

Great shoe, a bit narrow - So far feels and looks great. A bit narrow at the front. No laces, excellent pull-up system. If you tie them tight, the front anchor point feels strange on your toe, but other than that, great shoe.

Awesome!!! Just went over to do the Tour Du Mont Blanc hike and I can't say enough good things about this shoe. Comfortable, great traction and cool looking. By the way you don't have to trek for 10 days to find out how good these sneakers are!

Best Salomon yet. The main thing with this shoe is it actually has cushioning in the forefoot. They are much more impact absorbing than my old XA Pro 3Ds. This is a big deal for someone in the 220lb range. They are said to be more stable, but I haven't been able to tell the difference. The cushioning is worth the extra money alone.

Perfect ... Way comfortable, way stable (saved my ankles many times), good on all terrains - rock, dirt, grass. My first pair of Salomons - will buy more. Had to buy 1/2 size larger - great shoes!

XT Wings Rock - These shoes are one of the few types that I have owned that felt like I had been wearing them for three months when I put them on for the first time. Note that the shoe color description says grass but it is actually a beautiful chartreuse... Shipped faster than expected!

Killing my right foot - So the first day or two I loved these shoes, but after they loosened up, the right side of the left shoe really digs into my foot. It is the 'zig-zag' looking strip at the front of the shoe you see in the picture. There isn't any padding there in the shoe, and it just happens to hit my foot in the wrong place. Either that or I just got a defective shoe. Either way, the shoes are now too painful to wear. How disappointing.

Great stability - The extra width at the heel of this shoe (compared to Salomon's other shoes, like the XA Pro 3D) really helps make this an exceptionally stable shoe. It is also great if you tend to over-pronate. Great cushioning and a great shoe overall. Seems to run a bout a 1/2 size larger than the XA Pro 3D to me.

I really like these Salomons. I've never owned any before, but these are great. I love the lacing system and they fit great. The upper is very breathable. They lack a little bit of cushioning, but overall they are great and I would recommend them.
