Great for day hikes! I ordered these for my 8 year old daughter for a summer trip to the Sierra Mountains. She did very well on moderate day hikes and did not complain about the fit/comfort of these shoes. She did get rubbed on her heels, so they work better with a thick/cushioned sock. My daughter has a somewhat wide foot and the width was fine for her, unlike some Merrells I returned because they were too narrow for her foot. We are pleased with these shoes overall.
