Vasque Velocity VST GTX Black Plum - I really like these shoes. Very stable, and my narrow heel doesn't slip at all. I have small, narrow feet and these shoes accommodate that beautifully. I have their backpacking shoes in a 7, but I ordered these trail runners in a 6 1/2 and they fit perfectly. I assumed I would be wearing thinner running socks with these shoes instead of thick hiking socks. I bought them because I liked my comfortable backpacking shoes and because they had Gore-Tex to keep my feet dry in the rain. I got better than I expected. They are now my favorite outdoor shoe. I'm a convert to Vasque.

Vasque's Velocity VST GTX - Overall they are very comfortable and elegant shoes. They accommodated my narrow ankle pretty well. I just have to wear it with the thinnest hiking socks. Otherwise feels too tight, even though I ordered my usual width. It's not a problem for me since my feet hardly get cold, but some people may want to buy a little bigger size and width if they want to wear thicker socks. The color is very pretty, I love it. It's hard to find hiking waterproof shoes that are elegant and good looking as well as comfortable and lightweight as this model. I'm very pleased overall.

This is a very different shoe from the Velocity XCR. It's not merely an upgrade. This feels much more like a sneaker/running shoe than other Vasque styles that pass as trail runners. I can actually run in these, something I couldn't imagine with the Volta or Mantra, or even Velocity XCR, all of which I tried this go-round. It actually hugs the foot and feels sturdy but flexible. I have extremely narrow heels, along with a normal to wide forefoot and this shoe is very accommodating. There is an extra, outer terminal eyelet which allows for a heel-fit adjustment. This is common in running shoes, but it is the first time I've seen it in anything by Vasque. This shoe feels stable and well-cushioned on rugged terrain -- much more so than the relatively flimsy New Balance 800WT, which I now use only for dry pavement and park strolling. Good for trail running or fast walking, particularly on uneven, muddy surfaces; extended city or park walks; even some very light hiking. They are probably not supportive enough for longer, more strenuous hikes. They are short. I recommend sizing up a half size. I ordered the "B-Medium" width. I've checked "felt narrower than marked" only because I find it narrow compared to most other outdoor shoes I've tried, by Vasque, Merrell, Salomon, etc. Note that a "D-Wide" width is available that might fit more like those other brands' medium.
