Big time disappointment. Upsides: Wide forefoot. Solid toe guard. Low profile. Good traction in most conditions (nothing is good on slimy rock). Fairly light weight. Downsides: Flat as a board; no arch whatsoever. Stiff. Shallow toe box on the lateral side (though high on the medial side)so the little piggy that had none and the little piggy that went wee wee wee may get a rubbing from the stiff upper if you have less than perfect feet. Way too much volume (sloppy fit) in the midfood and heel area for my liking. The stiff midsole does not perform well with the wide heel area (slips easily and debris easily works its way into the shoe). I would rather wear my road shoes on gnarly terrain. The response I got from Montrail customer service regarding a defect was not customer service at all. They could take some lessons from Zappos. The shoes say Montrail on them, but it seems they're long gone. Welcome to Columbia Sportswear, where you pay more and get less.

Shoe Size: Felt true to size
Shoe Width: Felt true to width
Shoe Arch: No arch support
Very little cushioning - I only kept the shoe for a little while before returning it but 2 things bothered me. 1. Felt very flat like no arch or cushioning 2. My heel lifted out of the shoe like never before. Heal lift has never been a problem for me, but with this shoe yes. I suspect that the shoe is pretty stiff and thus the cause of the heel coming out. This might have changed if I kept the shoe and broke it in. Just for comparison I have had both the Leona divide and the continental divide and liked both of them very much.

Thank you Montrail, for turning one of the best trail shoes into a racing flat. This shoe has zero support and I would not use it for anything over 10 miles. I have completed 3 100 mile trail runs (MMT) all using the old Hardrock plus many other ultra races. Thanks again for destroying a great shoe!!!!
